Firstly, apologies for posting in English, my Portuguese is non-existent, but we are learning.

My name is Nakkiran and I live in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

My wife & I will be moving to Porto in approximately 8-12 months, hence why I am joining this forum. I will look to you for help in setting up a system once we're in Porto

I've been an audiophile for about 5-6 years now, and this is my setup:

While I am listening to music/watching movies, my wife is busy building her Lego sets upstairs




We were recently in Porto and fell in love with the place, and we cannot wait to start living in Portugal

Yes, my wife's lego collection is impressive, and she plans on also collecting in Porto.

I'm keen to get some recommendations on AV shops in Porto so I know where to shop for quality cables, etc.

And, of course, I will look to buy some stuff from the members here to build up another system.

What a nice city choice, Porto is the best city to spend some of your life years in Portugal.
I hope you already have a house in mind, the Tourism turned habitation a serious problem – I know that, a lived some years in Porto and it’s a very important city for me.

I noticed you and your wife already visited de city, so I don´t have to talk about the monuments, even those ones Reirato put here – of course bridges connect riversides of Douro, aldo connect Porto to south of Portugal. Lisbon is a magnificent city, but if you can be in the best, who want’s the second best!?! Our the third, fourth, …

Now I/we don’t live in Porto (we went to Azores one year and know we live in Viseu), I didn’t knew that.

Ultimate Audio have some good opportunities, for me it´s the way to go.

About the TV's: I don´t think you can find here a good opinion about TVs, we talk here about sound not image...
LG is good, Samsung is good - the best screen manufacturers...
I suppose Sony has better electronics... but is my opinion. Usually the more expensive the better.
Try to evaluate the image quality of each of the models and choose according to it. The sound... I think you will need amplification and speakers to get a good sound.
Smart televisions raises the question of software. As you only point to one manufacturer (LG), it will be the same for all. But there are other options in this field that you can add: Amazon Fire, Apple Tv, Google Chromecast and lot of others.
My advice: get the better image and later decide who will provide the content.

Well, for a portuguese is always touching to see people falling in love with one of our cities or regions so you have my heartly welcome also. My french wife also felt in love with Lisboa for my big despair... not because Lisboa since that city remains the shining shadow of the portuguese history of course

She went twice to South Africa and liked a lot the country... less the cities where she was afraid. I guess you will find a more peaceful live in the portuguese land

I live in south of Tejo at Azeitão. But I love lots of places. Porto is one of the cities I enjoy a lot for several reasons. For sure you will spend a happy time over there.

For me in image size it's a key feature, it's something that in a television matters . Besides that features, each one of us have features we need, and finally price, quality image in the good manufacturers they seem almost equal to me.

Sound is what we discuss more here.
My opinion on that is, the budget for a surround system if applied to a stereo system it puts you in a higher quality level. 2 ears 2 speakers. That's where and how I would start.
